Mosquitoes can bite through clothing that is not woven tightly enough. Applying repellent to clothing helps prevent bites. Spray shirts, pants, socks and hats―but don’t spray under clothing. To help protect against ticks and chiggers, apply to cuffs, sleeve openings, socks and other openings in outer clothing. Wash all treated clothing before wearing it again.
Note: Repellun (DEET 20%) won’t damage cotton, wool or nylon—but DO NOT spray on or near acetate, rayon, spandex, other synthetics (aside from nylon), furniture, plastics, watch crystals, leather and painted or varnished surfaces, including automobiles.
DEET ( diethyltoluamide) developed in 1944 by the US Department of Agriculture is effective in repelling mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and many other biting insects. DEET works to confuse and interfere with the receptors on a mosquito’s antennae, which deters mosquitoes from landing on the skin and biting. These receptors are used to detect body heat, carbon dioxide and skin chemicals when seeking out prey.
It all depends on the person and what you will doing and for how long? The higher the percentage of DEET, the longer the product will remain active. That said, the percentage of DEET doesn’t increase the amount of repelling power, just the length of time it will last. So, Repellun Ointment is (12%) is about 4 hours. Repellun Medicated Spray 20% Deet is up to 5-6 hours or more mosquitoes protection.
Another common name for DEET is N,N-Diethyl-m-toluamide. Its categorized as Medicated ( safety to applied to skin ) /Environmental EP. Deet is the active ingredient in Repellun (20% ) which is effective in repelling mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and many other biting insects 20% DEET is regulated by TFDA as Medicated safety applied to the skin.
What is DEET anyway? It sounds so mysterious, but it isn’t! DEET is simply the common name for N,N-Diethyl-m-toluamide. It’s been in use as an effective insect repellent since it was developed by the U.S. Army in 1946.
Off all various insect repellents available in the market, DEET has been shown to be the most effective at repelling ticks, “ There is pretty good dat that DEET works against ticks” confirmed by Dr. Durland Fish, profeesor of epidemiology at the Yale school of Public Health and agrees by Dr. Tom Mather, director of the Center for Vector Borne Disease at the University of Rhode Island and its Tick Encounter Resource Center. *1

DEET does not kill mosquitoes—it deters and repels them. DEET interferes with neurons and receptors located on the mosquito’s antennae and mouth-parts that detect chemicals such as lactic acid and carbon dioxide.
Repellun Insect Repellent (20% DEET) provides long-lasting protection from more than mosquitoes. protects against biting flies, gnats, and chiggers too.
When applied correctly, DEET is appropriate for use on children. Products containing DEET can be used on children. Always read product label instructions, and when applying on children, spray on your hands first, and then apply to their skin.
DEET makes it hard for mosquitoes to land on you and bite you. There are several theories on how DEET works to repel mosquitoes, and the science continues to evolve on the specific mode of action. When applied correctly, DEET forms a vapor barrier at the skin surface that deters mosquitoes from landing on the skin.
DEET was developed by the U.S. Army in 1946. DEET was first registered decades ago, in 1957, after first being developed by the U.S. Army in 1946 for use by military personnel in insect-infested areas.
Nope! DEET is not DDT. DEET is not DDT. In fact DDT was banned in the U.S. in 1972.
The level of DEET in repellent only determines how long the protection lasts. Repellun 20%, it last you about 5-6 hours.
